Material Compatibility Notes

1

Thermal Expansion

CTE mismatch between coating and substrate can cause delamination. We calculate compatibility for each application.

2

Surface Preparation

Proper cleaning and surface roughening (Sa 2.5-3.0) is critical for coating adhesion and performance.

3

Service Environment

Corrosive media, temperature extremes, and wear conditions all affect coating selection.

Technical Notes & Guidelines

Design Considerations

  • • Design for adequate coating thickness on all surfaces
  • • Include radius on edges for better coverage
  • • Avoid sharp corners that concentrate stress
  • • Consider masking requirements for non-coated areas
  • • Allow for part fixturing points

Tolerance Stack-Up

  • • Factor in base metal tolerance + coating thickness
  • • Tighter tolerances may require grinding after coating
  • • Account for thermal expansion during service
  • • Consider process capability (Cpk) for critical dimensions
  • • Document critical dimensions on part drawings
